Charles Stewart Bevan fought in the Easter Rising as a member of C Company in the 1st Dublin Battalion of the Irish Volunteers. Bevan was amongst the first Volunteers to arrive at the Four Courts, where he was stationed for the week along with his brothers James and Thomas. He was sentenced to death following the surrender, but this was commuted and he was interned until 1917. Upon his release, he renewed his involvement with the Volunteers and participated in the War of Independence, assisting with the rescue of Matthew Brady from Richmond Hospital, amongst other activities.
