A member of the Irish Citizen Army, Edward Burke joined the St. Stephen’s Green Garrison upon the outbreak of the Easter Rising, taking up a position on Leeson St. He was interned in Stafford Jail and Frongoch prison camp until December 1916. He remained active in the ICA over the following years and fought with the republican side in the early stages of the Civil War. He was captured in August 1922 and interned until October of the following year.
