A native of Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, John Eunan MacGinley studied at St. Enda’s College, Rathfarnham and was member of Na Fianna Éireann. He was initiated into the IRB by Eamonn Bulfin and, at 17 years of age, fought with his brother Conor in the GPO during the Easter Rising. He was subsequently interned in Stafford Jail and Frongoch prison camp until July 1916. MacGinley later worked for in the Local Government Department of the Dáil before his death in 1923, which came as a result of a motorcycle accident.
