Henry, also known as Harry, Osborne joined the Freedom Club and the IRB in Belfast in 1912 and later helped to establish the Irish Volunteers in the city. Despite playing no part in the Rising, Osborne was arrested along with other prominent Belfast republicans on Easter Tuesday, 1916. He was taken by train to Richmond Barracks before being deported to Frongoch prison camp, where he remained until Christmas 1916.
