A native of Wexford, John Bolger was a member of the Liverpool Company in the Kimmage Garrison. On Easter Sunday, 23rd April, he participated in a raid on the De Selby quarries in an effort to obtain gelignite. He was later involved in an attempt to detonate explosives at the railway bridge on the North Circular Road, before moving to the GPO on Easter Tuesday, 25th April. He was interned in Stafford Jail and Frongoch prison camp until December 1916 and served in the 4th Battalion of the Wexford Brigade before moving to England. Bolger worked with the Marine Investigation Department during the Civil War and later emigrated to America.
