A member of the Irish Citizen Army, John Meagher joined the St. Stephen’s Green garrison upon the outbreak of the Easter Rising. When the garrison retreated to the Royal College of Surgeons, he took up a position on the roof of the building. He was subsequently deported to Stafford Jail before being transferred to Frongoch prison camp, where he was interned until Christmas 1916.
