Joseph Duffy was a member of the Kimmage Garrison of the Dublin Brigade, Irish Volunteers, during Easter 1916. He was stationed in Fairview and the General Post Office during Easter week. He served his sentence in Satfford and Frongoch and was released in December 1916.
