A silk weaver by trade, Nicholas Alexander was a Non Commissioned Officer in the 3rd Dublin Battalion of the Irish Volunteers. Initially based at Jacob’s factory, he was transferred to the St. Stephen’s Green garrison, where took up a position at the Turkish Baths. He was interned in Frongoch after the Rising. He renewed his involvement with the Volunteers following his release in December 1916.
