A member of F Company in the 1st Dublin Battalion of the Irish Volunteers, Thomas Sheerin fought in the North King Street and Church Street areas during the Easter Rising. He was deported to Wandsworth prison on 9th May and was later interned in Frongoch prison camp until December 1916. He subsequently rejoined the Volunteers and took part in a number of attacks and raids in Dublin during the War of Independence until his imprisonment in May 1921, two months after becoming Captain of F Company. Sheerin was released following the signing of the Anglo-Irish Treaty and played no part in the Civil War.
