He fought in the Easter Rising, taking part in attacks on RIC Barracks in Swords, Donabate and Garristown before joining the major attack on Ashbourne. Deported to Wandsworth Prison, he was afterwards interned in Frongoch prison camp until December 1916. Taylor rejoined the Volunteers upon his release and took part in a number of raids and attacks during the War of Independence. He did not join the National Army during the Civil War, though he assisted in operations against republican forces over the course of the conflict.
