Agnes (Una) Mallin, née Hickey, was a daughter of Patrick Hickey, who took part in the Fenian uprising of 1867. She worked as a nurse in Dublin, where she met Michael Mallin, who was on leave from service with the British Army in India. They married in 1903. She met her husband in his cell in Kilmainham Gaol before he was executed on 8th May for his part in the Easter Rising. She relied on the Irish Volunteer Dependents’ Fund and the IRA pension to support her family of five children, the last of whom was born after Michael’s execution. Agnes Mallin died from tuberculosis in 1932.
