A Volunteer with the Oranmore Company in the Galway brigade, Edward Corcoran fought in the Easter Rising under Liam Mellows. After participating in the attack on the Oranmore RIC Barracks and the seizure of the agricultural station in Athenry, amongst other operations, he was captured and sentenced to five years penal servitude. This sentence was reduced to three years and he was ultimately interned until June 1917.
