The eldest of the four Pearse siblings, Margaret Pearse was born on Great Brunswick Street in 1878, a year before her brother Patrick. She established an infant school in 1907 before joining St. Enda’s College, where she ran a preparatory school, taught French and served as a matron. She supported her brothers’ actions during the Easter Rising and would become a strong proponent of their legacy in the years to come, especially after the death of her mother in 1932. She was elected as a Fianna Fáil TD for Dublin County in 1933 and served in the Dáil for five years. She was made a senator in 1938 and held her seat until her death thirty years later.
