Maurice Brennan was a member of B Company in the 1st Dublin Battalion of the Irish Volunteers. He was part of a group that mobilised at Cabra Bridge on Easter Monday in 1916, eventually relocating to the GPO. Sentenced to death, he was ultimately interned until June 1917. He rejoined his battalion following his release and participated in the War of Independence. He took the republican side during the Civil War but was interned for most of the conflict.
