William Breen was an engineering officer with the 2nd Dublin Battalion of the Irish Volunteers. He was a member of the GPO garrison during the Easter Rising and was stationed at Reis’s Jewellers Building for part of the week. He later returned to the GPO and was part of a group led by The O’Rahilly who charged down Moore Street in an attempt to seize the Williams and Woods factory on Friday evening. Following the surrender, he was held in Stafford Jail and interned at Frongoch prison camp until 26th July, 1916. He died at his home three years later and was buried in Glasnevin cemetery.
